Deputy Commissioners, Additional District Magistrates and Sub Divisional Magistrates exercise powers of Executive Magistrates.

There is a Sub-Divisional Court headed by the SDM ( Sub Divisional Magistrate ).

Sub Divisional Magistrates are designated as Assistant Collectors and Revenue Assistants and are primarily responsible for day to day revenue work.

Additional District Magistrates and Sub Divisional Magistrates are Returning Officers for Assembly Constituencies and Electoral Registration Officers in respect of Voters Lists.

Each district is headed by a Deputy Commissioner, who has under him an Additional District Magistrate, Sub Divisional Magistrates, Tehsildars and Sub-Registrar.

Deputy Commissioners, Additional District Magistrates and Sub Divisional Magistrates are conferred with powers as Registrars of Marriage under the Hindu Marriage Act and Special Marriage Act.

The office of Sub Divisional Magistrate ( SDM ) ( Narela ), the head of Narela Alipur, which is within the subdivision, along with Sub Registrar Office.

Additional District Magistrates and Sub Divisional Magistrates are empowered to conduct enquiries into custodial deaths including deaths in Police Lock Up, Jails, Women Homes etc . The Officers of this Department are also expected to act as eyes and ears of the Government and conduct enquiries into all major accidents including major fires incidents, riots and natural calamities etc.

HE was the "'S . D . M "'( " sub Divisional Magistrate is the head official of a country's subdivision, responsible for maintenance of law and order in the Sub-Division " ) in 1973 of FARIDKOT . He had his early education at patiala . He was among the great freedom fighter of the country.
